You Say Goodbye, I Say Hello

This semester has been a rocky one for me already, to say the least. With a higher-than-usual course load and extracurricular schedule, high amounts of personal turmoil in a couple different areas, and increasing pressure to find an internship for this summer, it's safe to say I have been operating at my maximum stress level for over a month now. Talk about exhausting...

Finally, a little over a week ago, I hit my breaking point. Luckily amidst my meltdown I was comforted by my darling Little, who is always there for me during my crazy tendencies to flip out (and usually doing the same right alongside me).

Surprisingly, after I finally just gave in to all my stress and had a several-hour-long crying and venting session, I felt like a thousand pounds had been lifted off of me. I took the day off from classes the next day, spend the morning cleaning and then had an insanely productive two and a half hour workout. Then I did a bunch of errands, worked on a couple blog posts, and decided to finally start managing my stress rather than letting it manage me.

As difficult as it was, I had to evaluate all of the things that are causing me so much stress and anxiety and determine which things I could live without. One quality all of my friends seem to agree upon about me is that I literally never give up - evidently this is my greatest strength and simultaneously my greatest weakness.

I had to let go of a few things that I was really holding on to - and as hard as it was, I instantly felt this overwhelming wave of relief. New opportunities have already been presenting themselves to me, and I am already finding new little things that make me even happier. I think I needed the step back to recognize which things I actually needed/wanted, and which things I was just clinging to that weren't really there anymore. Sometimes letting go of the things we hold close is the best thing we can do for ourselves, if you can be brave enough.

La Luna

With this new wave of February snow, I've found myself trapped inside cuddled up in blankets a lot more often. Luckily we have had the Olympics to keep us occupied, but without DVR at school watching the Olympics is a whole different experience than what I am used to...

So to fill the hours of programming breaks on TV I've taken to some of my favorite old Pixar shorts to keep me occupied and brighten some of these dreary days. This is one of my personal favorites, and I was reminded of it when I stumbled upon this photo on Pinterest one afternoon.

Watch the video and I'm sure you'll agree that this photo is perfect. Not to mention its just a beautiful image - it makes me want to sail away on adventure to Neverland.

I hope this made your grey day a little brighter! Stay warm!

Let It Burn

By far one of my favorite ways to relax in my room is with candles. This year alone I have completely burnt through four candles...Is it odd that I felt some strange sense of accomplishment when I did that? (Besides the obvious disappointment that it meant I had to go buy a new one, of course...)

To me it felt like one of those small accomplishments of dedication that no one ever actually does, like finishing an entire tube of lip balm, or spraying an entire bottle of perfume. I light a candle almost every single day, especially if I am studying or just hanging around my room. No matter how stressful the task I am doing, it manages to reduce my stress level immensely.

I am definitely partial to some of my favorite Bath & Body Works scents like Warm Vanilla Sugar, but with the recent completion of yet another candle I have been exploring some new options to try out. Any suggestions?

Here are some of the ones I've been loving!

Funny Valentine's Day Cards

I refuse to do a sappy Valentine's post, and I also refuse to do a post about hating Valentine's day. All I want to say on this pink-filled chocolatey holiday is that these cards are HYSTERICAL and soooo something I would buy if I had someone to give them to. I wish I had found them sooner so I could have bought them for all of my lovely housemates because it's perfect for the kind of relationship we all have.

They're a little hard to read, but they say:

"I'd Kill (to be with) You"

"I Hate (when) You (are not with me)"

"(I Would) Go To Hell (and back just to see you)"

"(When) You're (not with me) A Pain (runs through my heart)"

If anyone knows where I can buy these delightful cards I found on Pinterest please fill me in!!

Essential Reading: Help for the Haunted

With all of the free time I have had lately during this seemingly never ending "January-Semester" my school has implemented, reading more books has been a major item on my to-do list. As sad as it sounds, I actually tend to get a lot of my book recommendations from my monthly Cosmopolitan! Sometimes I have discovered some of my favorite books of all time!

Unfortunately, however...this is not one of those times. The last recommendation I picked up was Help for the Haunted, by John Searles.

Don't get me wrong, I did like this book - very well written, definitely mysterious, and a refreshingly new plot that kept me interested...but that's all it did for me. I need a book that keeps me on the edge of my seat so much that I can't put it down, and usually resulting in me finishing it within a day or two (especially because I do most of my reading while on the elliptical, a task I need to be spiced up by an exciting page-turner).

This plot was so original, and very mysterious - I was curious and intrigued until the very end. I simply think the mystery was dragged out in such a slow and roundabout way that it lost some of its spark. If you are looking for a book that you can pick up and put down whenever you have a few spare moments, I definitely recommend this book! It will keep you guessing and has a bit of a surprise twist towards the end.

So I suddenly find myself in need of a new book, and preferably one that will keep me up all night, whether it is from laughing out loud or anxiously waiting in suspense! Any suggestions?
