Walk of Shame

Ah, the miserable walk of shame. To any girl out there who has ever done this little dance in particular (or in my case has rescued many friends from it) knows just how humiliating it can be.

I can't remember the last time I laughed so hard (and out loud) at a movie before, but this movie has found a way to turn women's worst nightmare into a hysterical story of an extremely brutal walk of shame, probably making most women feel just a little bit better about the whole thing.

If you haven't seen it yet, Walk of Shame is a must-see movie! I was laughing so often my roommate finally gave up studying and joined me just to see what all the fuss was about! I don't want to give away too much about the plot, but if you watch the trailer I think it will give you a good preview for what to expect! I absolutely recommend this movie - I have a feeling I'm going to see it again in the near future!

Also, shoutout to Pookie! (You'll get it once you see it...)

Bye Bye, Biotin!

I seem to be afflicted with the curse of hair that refuses to grow any longer than just past my shoulders. I would give anything to have super long hair, even if it is a pain to take care of! I decided to test out Biotin supplements because so many people I know have had success with them.

I can now let you know...I was not one of those successful people! Yikes.
At first, it worked SO well! I literally woke up one morning and my nails felt so strong it felt as though I could claw my way through drywall! (Don't worry, I didn't try it!)

My hair definitely started to look healthier, and I had just gotten a haircut so it grew much faster. However, once it reached the same length as always, it stopped. Meanwhile, I had been noticing that I was breaking out a lot more than usual (I'm blessed with pretty clear skin, I almost never break out).  I assumed it was just stress, but this continued for almost three months!

Finally, I mentioned it to my housemates and one of them told me when she tried to take biotin she had some weird and freaky side effects as well! I sadly decided to stop taking the vitamins for two weeks to see if my skin cleared up, and it did!

Don't get me wrong, I would still give anything to have longer hair...but who cares how long my hair is if my skin is a total nightmare! I gave up the biotin and decided to try something else. I went out and bought organix Biotin and Collagen shampoo and conditioner - so far, so good! (And it smells pretty nice, too!)

Have any of you tried biotin or some other beauty trend and had a bad side effect like I did?!

Summer in the City!

It is official! This summer I will be living and interning in...
CHICAGO!

By far my favorite city, I am beyond thrilled! I finally have an apartment and the most incredible internship! I have been withholding this news for a while because I wanted to wait until all of the details were settled, but I can't wait any longer! As many of you know, both of my brothers along with my sister-in-law and adorable baby niece Kendall all live in Chicago, not to mention a ton of my friends will be there this summer as well!

I have never lived in a city like Chicago, although I feel like I know it as a second home from all of the visiting I have done. Even so, I can't wait to see all of the adventures I have as I attempt to navigate living in a big city for the first time ever - I'm sure I will be writing about some of my most entertaining mishaps on here, so stay tuned!

Chicago in the summer has to be one of the greatest places ever - the beach, brunches, Lollapalooza, and the gorgeous sunny weather! I'm living in Lincoln Park, my favorite area in Chicago, and I'll only be a few blocks away from my brother!

I don't think I have ever been so excited for summer in my life - plus, one of my closest friends from high school will be there too! And I have already made the rest of my hometown friends promise to come visit both of us constantly!

If anyone has any important advice for a first-time city dweller, please comment! In the meantime, I'll be over here enjoying my total Carrie Diaries moment! Chicago, here I come!

Mother Knows Best

In honor of Mother's Day and one of my favorite Disney songs, I have decided to make today's post a tribute to all of the motherly advice I have received throughout my life that I completely ignored -- and completely shouldn't have. Some are from my mom, some from my stepmom, and some are from the mothers of my closest friends who have over the years been nothing short of a third mom to me.

After all, Mother knows best!

1. "Don't roll your eyes or one day they'll get stuck that way" - Okay so this one wasn't necessarily one I shouldn't have ignored because it was literal, but I definitely had some serious attitude (okay, okay, and I still do!) I think I heard this one from my mom at least once a day. I think I perfected the eye roll at age 6!

2. "He is not the last boy you'll ever date" - Oh how much I hated this one! I thought I knew everything, and how dare they say that my 8th grade boyfriend somehow wasn't supposed to be my husband?! Yikes! I think I still have many more frogs to kiss...

3. "Never shave your legs from side to side - ever!" - So this one may seem a little strange, but I will never lose the scar on my leg just because my stubborn middle school self thought that I could do whatever I wanted. This was a severe case of "Just because you told me not to, I'm doing it!" Man I was stubborn!

4. "Don't ever try to sneak anything past me...I have eyes in the back of my head!" - I think this advice was broken more times than it was followed in high school, and I don't think my friends and I ever got away with a single thing from any of our moms! That certainly didn't stop us from trying though! Again, and again, and again....

5. "No phones at the dinner table!" - I truthfully make this rule anytime I am out to dinner with my boyfriend or my close friends. We stack our phones on the table and the first one to touch theirs gets some form of punishment - if we are at the bars they usually have to buy the next round! When I was younger this was basically torture, and as hard as it is for me now, I can't stand when people just sit on their phones during meals!

Happy Mother's Day to the many specials Moms in my life, and hopefully one day I will finally absorb and understand all of the sage advice and wisdom you have to offer!

Color Me Neon!

Oh, Essie, you've done it again! I might as well just give up and seek employment with Essie because I'm pretty sure it is the only way I will ever be able to afford all of the gorgeous nail polish colors they come out with. Their new Limited Edition Neon Collection is perfection.

Just in time for summer!

The colors (from left to right):
Too Taboo, Chills and Thrills, I'm addicted, Vices Versa, Serial Shopper, Sittin' Pretty

I think half of my obsession with Essie comes from the adorable names they come up with for every color and collection. I am definitely coveting Serial Shopper and Sittin' pretty, but if I'm feeling daring I might spring for "I'm Addicted" too!

What are your favorite colors from the new Neons Collection?

I think I died and went to preppy heaven...how have I never heard of this store?!
Lauren James has to be officially my new favorite brand. I can't wait to start collecting all of the amazing things, but I seriously can't choose my favorite one! I discovered it through one of my favorite blogs that I follow, Prep In Your Step, and thank god that I did!

Here are just a few of my favorite things from Lauren James...I can't wait to watch my closet slowly fill up with all of these adorable preppy items! (I think I may start with that perfect seersucker bow dress...)

Mother's Day Gift Guide

With Mother's Day just around the corner I think I have officially been shocked into the realization that it is May already...what?! But I do have to say, I find shopping for Mother's Day Gifts significantly easier than shopping for dear old Dad. Mom's love anything handmade, sentimental, and flat out girly!

Right alongside my shock that it is already May is my shock that Mother's Day is so soon...and I'm hoping I'm not the only one who has procrastinated! In case I'm not alone here, I've put together a little last-minute gift guide for a variety of budgets to help you come up with the perfect gift for Mom!

Enjoy!

Happy Mother's Day!

Talk Derby To Me!

Born and raised in Louisville, Kentucky my entire life, the most important day of the calendar is in just two short days: THE KENTUCKY DERBY!

I'm not exaggerating when I say Louisville natives plan their entire year around the Derby, but what most out-of-towners don't realize is that this event is so much more than a two-minute horse race. It is two weeks long of events, including a parade, an Ohio River Boat Race (ah...the days when we used to get out of school early just to attend this event...), Thunder Over Louisville (the biggest fireworks show in North America, thank you very much), and possibly the most overlooked event of all: Oaks!

Oaks is the day before Derby and in my opinion it is just as big, and possibly a little bit more fun, than the actual Derby! There is still a major race - The Oaks Race - consisting of female horses, and in recent years Oaks has been a day that all the women still sport their Southern Derby fashion but with a trend towards wearing pink for Breast Cancer Awareness.

I am always shocked when people have heard of the Derby and look at me cross-eyed when I mention Oaks because in my eyes they go hand-in-hand! Nevertheless, this event has been a part of my life since I was born and it is full of some of the most fun traditions I have ever taken part in! Here are just a few of my favorite Derby pastimes:

Most of these are self-explanatory, but I have to comment on how horribly upset I got while writing this post at the realization that I won't be able to devour at least 30 of those delicious tenderloin sandwich rolls this year...I immediately texted my mom asking her to send them to me somehow because this may be my favorite part of all!

And of course, anyone who grew up in Louisville spent 3/4 of their life drinking out of hordes of these Derby cups that our parents collect from each of their mint juleps over the years. (If not these, it was the plastic Cherokee Triangle cups - Louisville kids you know what I'm talking about!)

I have to stop writing now or my FOMO will reach an all-time high about missing the single best weekend of the entire year, but I can definitely guarantee I will still be screaming at the TV, drinking my homemade mint juleps and eating the closest substitute I can find to those sandwiches while I scream at the TV dressed in my Lilly Pulitzer finest!

Happy Derby, Y'all!
